We’ll be almost everywhere!”

Part of what makes a business successful is experience. Another part is the quality of people who support that business. Frank Hawley is a two-time NHRA Funny Car champion, one of the sport’s 50 Greatest Drivers, and, for more than 30 years, the owner and lead instructor at the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School, so the experience is a no-brainer.
And the support? Well, when companies like Summit Racing Equipment spend year after year supporting the school, it’s obvious Hawley has built a credible empire based on results and customer satisfaction, both for racers and marketing partners.
Jim Greenleaf, the motorsports and events manager for Summit, said the school has provided his organization the ability to reach out to new groups and new clients.
“We were on board with Frank before I was in this position,” he said. “I’ve been with the company 20 years, so in the eight years I have been in this capacity, we’d already started a relationship with the school and Frank.
“Obviously, the main reason to get involved is because of what Frank’s doing, whether he’s teaching somebody who is looking to improve their skills or somebody who is new to the sport. There are opportunities there for us to help us reach that racer and to be a partner with them going forward in their racing career.”
“We have been with Summit for a long time. Summit has supported our sport for many years at both a Sportsman and a Professional level. I think our customers, the racers and enthusiasts have come to rely on Summit as the source for performance parts. I know that my staff uses them on a regular basis. It’s one stop shopping, with great service and great prices,” said Hawley.
Greenleaf said Summit Racing Equipment maintains its relationship with Hawley and the driving school due to both the programs the former drag racing champion provides for students and Hawley’s abilities to teach and motivate.
“I know folks that have been involved and are very impressed with the program that he runs,” Greenleaf said. “Again, it’s a top-notch program from the quality of the cars to Frank as a speaker and a motivator.”
When many think of the NHRA, they think of the Mello Yello Series and its Pro drivers. While Summit supports drivers such as Pro Stock champions Greg Anderson and Jason Line and Funny Car driver Tim Wilkerson, the company’s bread and butter comes from the Sportsman ranks.
Hobby racers and part-time drivers who have full-time jobs outside the sport are the ones Summit Racing Equipment wants to reach the most. Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School gives them that opportunity.
“It’s a local guy who is home working on his car in the garage, in the shop,” Greenleaf said. “It’s the guy that can go out and race on any given weekend. Whether it’s his daily driver or whether it’s a purpose-built race car, there really is no other form of motorsports that allows the participant to do that, to get involved at such an entry level, without a huge investment necessarily and that’s really our customer base, it’s that do-it-yourself racer.”
And to Jim Greenleaf and many other automotive industry representatives, Hawley and the school is a great way to reach those drivers. Regardless of whether it’s someone looking for a couple days of fun in a race car or someone looking to follow in Frank’s championship footsteps, Summit knows the school is a capable method of reaching a new customer base.
“Frank is kind of the next step,” Greenleaf said. “As they want to improve, they go to see Frank and obviously we want to be a part of that as they grow in the sport.”

When this news goes out, we’ll be running classes at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, CA before heading back to our home track at Gainesville Raceway for the winter and spring. We’d like to feature some of our grads in an upcoming newsletter, so please send us your pictures and news! In the meantime, if you’ve already been to the school, tell people about the programs, and please “like” and review us on our Facebook page. We are grateful to continue to help people get started in racing, or help them fulfill a lifelong dream! Our grads are our best endorsement and we are thankful for you all!
The December classes between Christmas and New Years are extremely popular and this year the calendar worked out where we are able to offer TWO classes during this time. Our very knowledgeable guys, Paul Shields and Jeff Arend, are responsive to your calls, texts and emails so feel free to contact them with any and all questions you have about the school, what you’re trying to accomplish, whether you want to bring your own car, arrange a group event, just have some fun, buy a gift for someone, or even treat a potential sponsor or significant other to a taste of drag racing, etc. Their direct contacts are listed at the end of this email.

Summit Racing Equipment and Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School have been working together for over a decade. Having just come off a week of classes at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH it seemed like the perfect time for a thank you to our long-time partner!
This year the Summit logo has been worn by thousands of our students including stars like Jay Leno and Rutledge Wood.
We shot a segment with Jay for his new show “Jay Leno’s Garage” at Fontana and Rutledge Wood was behind the wheel of one of our Super Gas cars as he and Tanner Foust prepared for a segment of Top Gear.
Summit Racing Equipment is the world’s largest mail order automotive performance equipment company, with thousands of performance parts, aftermarket accessories, tools and garage equipment, collectibles, and stock replacement parts to choose from.
So, if you’re ever by one of the Summit retail stores, stop in. They host car shows, cruise-ins, have tent sales and more! Retail outlets are located in Tallmadge, OH, Sparks, NV and McDonough, GA.
Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School is coming to Summit Motorsports Park July 20-24! “There are different reasons drivers attend our courses,” said school founder Frank Hawley. “Some are looking to get a competition license while others just want to drive a fast dragster and check another item off their bucket list. Every class has a combination of experienced racers and folks that have never been down a drag strip. The two-day SC/SG license course is designed to work for drivers with various levels of experience.”
“The staff, as well as the entire Summit Motorsports park facility, is one of the best you’ll find anywhere in the country,” said Hawley. “The Bader’s make us, and our students, feel very welcome and give us a superb surface in which to conduct our courses.”
The two-day Licensing program on July 20-21 allows drivers of all backgrounds the opportunity to earn their NHRA competition driver’s license in the school’s Chevy Performance 572/720R equipped Super Comp Dragsters or Super Gas Firebirds. For drivers that already have their own car, the school offers a “bring your own car” program that gives drivers the opportunity to enjoy the same driving course behind the wheel of their own race car. No experience is necessary to take the course.
In addition to on-track time, students will learn from Frank’s classroom sessions which cover the physiology of how the mind and body work together. Participants will learn how to mentally prepare, perform at the highest level, improve focus and block out distractions. Frank teaches how to practice more effectively and feel more confident about pulling up to the starting line and he shares techniques on how to remove the emotional baggage (everybody has some) that can often disrupt good performance .
For those that are simply looking for the thrill of blasting down the quarter mile, the Dragster Adventure is offered on July 23 or July 24. The Dragster Adventure starts at just $399 for the half day program, or $599 for the whole day program with SIDE-BY-SIDE racing.
Seats are limited, so call now to reserve your seat for July 20-21 for the competition course, or book on-line for the Dragster Adventure on either July 23 or July 24!
For information on all classes, dates and locations for Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School, visit the school’s website – www.frankhawley.com or call 866-480-7223.
Here’s what some of our recent grads had to say:
“This was by far the BEST WEDNESDAY OF MY LIFE! Thanks to the outstanding program offered by the Hawley group. They are the best. I will be back! I thank everyone involved, Frank, Lana, Jeff and all the rest. My bucket list has 1 less thing to do!” Kevin Crawford, Dragster Adventure Challenge Winner
“I’m still processing my two days at drag racing school. I learned as much about myself as I did about racing, which is what I was looking for. Instead of lecturing about cars and driving, Frank teaches the bio-mechanics necessary to perform a precise task under pressure, and the state of mind needed to do well. Drag racing requires a keen self-awareness and presence in the moment.” Joseph Brown, Super Gas Firebird
“I attended your super comp class on December 2 & 3 in Gainesville and 7 weeks later I have a Top Fuel Dragster license and I couldn’t have done this without the things you teach your students. Thank You!” Shawn Reed, Super Comp Dragster now Top Fuel driver!
“I learned much more than I expected to and had fun doing it. Frank is a terrific teacher! And I’ve had lots of teachers over the years (undergraduate school, medical school and 6 years of surgical residency). The teaching format worked well for novices and experienced racers. The cars worked flawlessly and were equal in elapsed time. I was surprisingly comfortable despite my sizable frame. My diminutive wife was comfortable too. The adjustability of the cars make them the right size for any driver. Derek and Jimmy were a tremendous help before and after each pass. I look forward to returning for the super comp/super gas program. I’ll be bringing my friend Wayne down with me so he can work on his lights too.”Dr. Ron Franzino, Dragster Adventure winner

Don’t miss the opportunity for you, your friends, your employees, or your customers to race in Side-by-Side Competition! Whether it is a life-long dream to drive a dragster or you’re looking for that special way to entertain clients or customers – this program is for you! Dragster Adventure Programs start at $399!
This has been a great year! We’ve covered the country from California to Washington to Pennsylvania with lots of places in between.
Our first full season with our Dragster Adventure thrilled drivers and produced some fabulous side-by-side racing and our school is still the only place student drivers can race dragsters in “side-by-side” competition.
Take a look at the video of the John Force Corporate Adventure day. You’ll see John with his daughters Courtney and Brittney and his team driver Robert Hight enjoying a day with their sponsors at our school. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAYWcYHztLg
Our school is the perfect place for you, your friends, customers or employees to join in the activities during the Adventure programs. We can plan a private session just for your group!
The fall weather is spectacular here in Florida. We’re enjoying 70 degrees and sunshine while many people are stuck in the “polar vortex”. So treat yourself to a trip to Florida. We have a full schedule of classes in everything from Super Comp and Super Gas to our 200 mph Alcohol machines.
Many dates and locations have been finalized for 2015, so if you can’t make it to Florida this winter (although you should really try!), take a look at our other locations and decide what other race track will work for you or your group. https://frankhawley.com/class-dates-locations/
2015 will mark our third decade of providing excitement, thrills, education and fulfillment of many drivers’ dreams. We would love to help make it a memorable year for you behind the wheel!
We look forward to hearing from you!
