Many of our grads are out there racing, and we really appreciate it when they share their news with us.  This newsletter will showcase just a few of them!  So, if you haven’t sent us your news and pictures of your hot rod, please do!  We’ve helped many people get into racing as well as help experienced racers improve, so call us at 866-480-7223!

Jim Petrecky ~~ “There were many times during the season that I remembered lessons from class and they helped me prepare, perform and improve.”  Jim attended the School in 2016, so last year during his rookie season he won a race and qualified as a Lebanon Valley Dragway track representative for the Division 1 Bracket Finals where he went 4 rounds.

Chuck Weck ~~ “The school exceeded my expectations in most every way…I intend to recycle some of Frank’s stuff and use with our performance based sales staff…I do think I will be a better driver this season with Frank’s instruction and certainly calmer in the seat.”  Chuck and his daughter Carly attended the school recently.  Chuck is an experienced racer, having run 8 and 9 second cars and an Outlaw Pro Mod.

Jordin DeWald ~~ “When I started racing I referred back to what I learned in the class to help me out on top of my dads help.”  Jordin licensed in both super gas and super comp at Royal Purple Raceway and she is now racing a 2001 S-10 that runs 10.60s along with a 1937 Chevy truck in Super Gas.

Jeff Bragg ~~ “Your class exceeded all of my expectations. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your family for the two days. I feel that by implementing knowledge and instruction that I received, it will allow me to develop and practice in order to safely compete.” Jeff recently attended the School and will be fielding a new COPO!

Rich Gregorski ~~ “Two important things I learned – I have much work to do both with my skills and my car… I found your class sessions very interesting…many things you spoke about can be used in business as well as life.” Rich attended the school a few years ago and drove one of our SG cars and also brought his car back to the program.  His car was featured in National Dragster a couple years back.

Jim & Jimmy Mallare ~~ Father and son attended December 2014 and Jim (dad) is racing Top Sportsman with his Camaro and Jimmy is bracket racing his Firebird!

IMG_7478.1Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School is coming to Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL June 30-July 2!  “This is the first time we’ve ever brought the school to Chicago and we are really excited,” said school founder Frank Hawley.  “I spent several years living in Chicago when I was driving the Chi-Town Hustler Funny Car, so it’s good to be back.  The facility in Joliet is first class and the staff has been extremely helpful in planning our trip.”

“There are different reasons drivers attend our courses,” said school founder Frank Hawley.  “Some are looking to get a competition license while IMG_6773.cropothers just want to drive a fast dragster and check another item off their bucket list.  Every class has a combination of experienced racers and folks that have never been down a drag strip.  The course is designed to work for drivers with various levels of experience.”

There are still seats open in the Super Comp/Super Gas class on June 30-July 1.  “The two-day Super Class allows drivers of all backgrounds the opportunity to earn their NHRA competition driver’s license in the school’s Chevy Performance 572/720R equipped Super Comp Dragsters or Super Gas Firebirds.  For drivers that already have their own car, the school offers a “bring your own car” program that gives drivers the opportunity to enjoy the same driving course behind the wheel of their own race car.  No experience is necessary to take the course.

IMG_6051.1For those that are simply looking for the thrill of blasting down the quarter mile, the Dragster Adventure is offered on July 2nd.  The Dragster Adventure starts at just $399 for the half day program, or $599 for the whole day program with SIDE-BY-SIDE racing. Due to the tremendous response, the Dragster Adventure is sold out on this date, but we are taking names for cancellations.

Seats are limited and advance registration is required, so call now to reserve your seat for the June 30-July 1 competition course.

Marc Caruso knows drag racing.PDRA Rock3

His father began racing at the age of 15 in upstate New York and Marc followed in those footsteps years later in his 1996 IROC Z. After racing his street car, he earned his Super Gas license at the age of 17 in his dad’s ’67 Camaro, which led to the purchase of a 1970 Chevelle. He raced 10.90 in IHRA events and won his first national event in 2000 at Norwalk. Following years of racing, national event victories, Marc said attending the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School upped his game even further.

“(It was) very educational,” he said. “I’ve been drag racing for almost 30 years and after sitting in on Frank’s classes, I found myself in two back-to-back NHRA Top Sportsman National event finals.  I truly believe by implementing some of the psychological teachings from Frank is what helped me find my way to both of those finals.”

Marc believed in what Frank Hawley taught so much, he enrolled both of his daughters, Camrie Caruso and Ava Lawler, in the school as well.  “As a racer, I feel in control when I’m operating the race car,” Marc said. “But, when I’m watching my daughters, the hardest part for me is standing on the starting line and feeling completely not in control. It can be pretty nerve racking.”

Watching Frank work with the girls, however, gave Marc a sense of security that they were in good hands. “I truly feel that Frank gave both Camrie and Ava the best know-how to compete competitively and most importantly, safely.”

camrie8Camrie has competed in Super Comp and Top Dragster at Division 1 and Division 3 races and is waiting for the day she can join her father at the national events. When she found out she was going to attend the Frank Hawley Drag Racing School, she knew her racing future just got brighter.

“My experience with the school was amazing!” she said. “I was so excited to be a part of such a successful drag racing school! As soon as my dad told me I was going, I had a countdown on my phone just waiting till the day.”

One of Camrie’s favorite aspects of the school is the post-run analysis done in the classroom. Making the run and feeling the car react is one thing, but to watch the lap on video afterwards with Frank providing expert commentary on what went right/wrong is invaluable for students.

“During one of my passes,” Camrie said, “I didn’t go as straight as I could have. I remember my dad telling me after the school that Frank said ‘Don’t tell her what she did wrong,’ and my dad was confused because he said his stomach dropped and he wanted to correct me right away. He came back and asked how I thought it went and I knew what I did wrong and that was important.

“I really enjoyed how the school made you feel comfortable and really focused on teaching the right ways to drive and stay safe. I would go back to the school for sure!”

For Ava, her racing career started when she became a part of the Caruso family. Marc and his father, Joe, embraced Ava withinPDRA Rock their racing program and she said it had a profound effect upon her.

“Being a part of the Caruso family not only affected my racing career, but it has also affected my life,” Ava said. “If it was not for Joe Caruso and Marc Caruso, I would not be who I am today.  I am thankful for the support they give and the belief they have in me as a racer.

“Drag racing also brought Camrie and I together. We are now inseparable and I am happy to call her my sister and best friend.”

Attending the school not only improved her racing ability, it improved her outlook on life. “Frank Hawley’s school influenced the way I drive a race  car,” she said, “but it also influenced the way I look at life. Frank taught me how watching my mistakes would make me want to try even harder to focus and fix the problem.  The advice he gave and the sharing of life lessons helped me understand what needed to be accomplished for my next run.

“Frank Hawley’s driving school was not just about getting a new license; it was also about future confidence and learning from my mistakes.”

UPDATE!  At her first race of the 2016 season Ava won the 2016 “Bracket Bash Championship” at the PDRA Spring Nationals in Rockingham, NC!

School gDSCN2279.1rads Dave Shotsberger and Mike Egan raced two of the Hawley School S/C dragsters at the NHRA Southeast Division race in Bristol, TN last weekend.  Egan did well, advancing to the second round while Shotsberger was number 1 qualifier with a perfect 8.900 run!  Dave then went 5 rounds to reach the semi-finals, where he lost in a very close double break out run by .002 seconds!

“Everyone knows about our school and the thousands of grads we’ve had over the years, however not everyone knows that we also ‘lease our race cars’ to our graduates. Although many drivers end up purchasing race cars after attending our
school some want to try racing without making the long term commitment.  For these folks leasing one of our cars is a great alternative,” said school owner Frank Hawley.  “Dave and Mike have raced with us before and we had a lot of confidence they would do well IMG_5146going into this big race.”

“Frank’s staff and equipment are the best,” said Shotsberger.  “Each time I’ve raced with them I’ve had a great time. The cars were near perfect and Jimmy and Derek gave me the confidence and the race car to go all those rounds.  Even though we lost in the semi-final round it was one of my best runs ever by the numbers and a very close loss. Certainly a run to be happy with.”  Mike and I have raced together many times and become good friends.  We’re planning on racing again next year.”

?

“I’ve been racing one of Frank’s cars for the past few years and always had a wonderful time,” said Egan.  “As a retired pilot I appreciate the attention to detail that the crew gives to the preparation and operation of the race cars.  The cars always run great and the tuning is spot on. The Bristol race was a tremendous amount of fun.  I can’t wait for next season.”

The cars that Shotsberger and Egan raced in Bristol are the same cars that students get to learn to drive at the school!  Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School can give anyone the chance to go from a complete beginner to the winners circle!

photo 5If you’ve ever thought that racing a dragster in side-by-side competition sounded like a thrill… then there is only one place to go… Frank Hawley’s Drag racing School!

On August 25-27, 2015 Hawley’s school will be offering 2 programs at the famed 1/4 mile facility.  For those that want to experience the thrill of flying down the drag strip behind the wheel of a dragster and competing against other drivers, the school will be conducting the Dragster Adventure. In this program you’ll be making Full 1/4 mile runs in one of the school dragsters in the morning session and going head to head with other drivers in the afternoon competition.  It’s the only schophoto 1ol that offers a real side-by-side racing program.

But if you’re after even more power and speed you might want to try to earn your NHRA competition license in the Super Comp or the Super Gas cars.  This is the course that started many of the PROS careers.  The Frank Hawley program has no competition when it comes to training winning drivers.

262900_10152112788425632_435511617_n[1]We’ll be at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, TX conducting our popular Super Comp/Super Gas class on May 13-14, 2015 as well as holding the Dragster Adventure/Challenge with side-by-side racing on May 15th.

The two-day Licensing Class allows drivers of all backgrounds the opportunity to earn their NHRA competition driver’s license in the school’s 572/720R Chevrolet-powered Super Comp Dragsters or Super Gas Firebirds. Some drivers even obtain both licenses during the class. Current drivers can bring their own car to the course, too. The course also includes Hawley’s Personal Performance Development lectures. You don’t need any previous racing experience to take the class,” continued Hawley. “In every class we’ve got drivers that have never raced sitting next to drivers that have won big money bracket races. It’s a great mix, with the rookies being able to benefit from some of the veterans’ backgrounds. But not everyone is after an NHRA license; some just do it for fun and excitement.”

If you just want to have fun and make a few laps down the track, then the Dragster Adventure or Dragster Adventure Challenge is for you!  These cars accelerate 0-60 mph in less than 3 seconds, run in the mid-10 second range at about 130 mph and the program starts at just $399!

Classes are offered throughout the year in Gainesville, Denver, St. Louis, Norwalk, and Reading.  Visit our website for a complete list of dates.  Dates for Corporate Adventure groups, Top Dragsters, Nostalgia Funny Car and the Alcohol classes are available on request.

To view our License Class video or obtain more information on all available classes, dates and locations for Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School, visit the school’s website – www.frankhawley.com – or call 866-480-7223 (Outside U.S. 678-804-8835).

Here’s what some of our recent grads had to say about their class:

“This was by far the BEST WEDNESDAY OF MY LIFE!  Thanks to the outstanding program offered by the Hawley group.  They are the best.  I will be back! I thank everyone involved, Frank, Lana, Jeff and all the rest.  My bucket list has 1 less thing to do!”  Kevin Crawford, Dragster Adventure Challenge Winner

“I’m still processing my two days at drag racing school. I learned as much about myself as I did about racing, which is what I was looking for. Instead of lecturing about cars and driving, Frank teaches the bio-mechanics necessary to perform a precise task under pressure, and the state of mind needed to do well. Drag racing requires a keen self-awareness and presence in the moment.”  Joseph Brown, Super Gas Firebird

“I attended your super comp class on December 2 & 3 in Gainesville and 7 weeks later I have a Top Fuel Dragster license and I couldn’t have done this without the things you teach your students. Thank You!”  Shawn Reed, Super Comp Dragster now Top Fuel driver!

“I learned much more than I expected to and had fun doing it.  Frank is a terrific teacher! And I’ve had lots of teachers over the years (undergraduate school, medical school and 6 years of surgical residency).  The teaching format worked well for novices and experienced racers. The cars worked flawlessly and were equal in elapsed time. I was surprisingly comfortable despite my sizable frame.  My diminutive wife was comfortable too. The adjustability of the cars make them the right size for any driver.  Derek and Jimmy were a tremendous help before and after each pass.  I look forward to returning for the super comp/super gas program.  I’ll be bringing my friend Wayne down with me so he can work on his lights too.”  Dr. Ron Franzino, Dragster Adventure winner

12888340414_23bd9b30f7_o.cropFrank Hawley’s Drag Racing School will start its 2014 West Coast season at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, AZ.  The world’s premiere Drag School will be conducting Super Comp and Super Gas Competition licensing classes on March 2-3, 2015 and the increasingly popular Dragster Adventure on March 4, 2015.

“We are excited to be heading to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Phoenix this winter.  The weather in Phoenix around that time of year is spectacular.  We will be running our classes following the NHRA Divisional race, so race fans from around the country can have a total motorsports experience.  They can watch the races and then do some driving themselves,” said Hawley, owner and chief instructor of the school.

Hawley points out that the competition course which can provide drivers with an NHRA 4A or 4B competition license is not just for those who want to go racing.  “In every class we have ever held we have had experience levels that ranged from veterans to folks that have never staged a car,” said Hawley.  “Over the years we have worked very hard to develop a curriculum that never talked over someone’s head.  I have always believed it is essential that we offered classes where everyone felt comfortable no matter their age or gender and that we provided an atmosphere where each person could enjoy themselves,” added Hawley.  Racers can also choose to attend one of Hawley’s lectures on ‘Personal Performance Development’ which is offered as part of the Competition classes.  Many of today’s top professional and sportsman racers have attended and greatly benefitted from Hawley’s teachings.

Here’s a few quotes from some of last year’s Phoenix grads:

“Best experience I’ve ever given myself! I would be forever blessed if I only retained even a quarter of what I heard & learned… Thank you!”  Windy

“I just want to drop you a short note to thank you all and most of all Frank for giving me opportunity to get my License. I learned a lot in class and a lot of it I have applied to my business (American Walk in Coolers) the idea of staying calm and not to over react to things that happen which are out of our control was great, there was a ton of other things I leaned and I thank you Frank, It was all good stuff.”  Gene

“ I wanted to thank everyone at the school for their help and a special thanks to Frank . I ran my first race this past weekend and ended up going to the finals with over 30 cars in the field and finished runner up running a super pro class with a local drag club.”  David
